Marching Band 2007
The Velvet Lounge
For the 2007 competitive season,
the marching band will be taking you to the VIP lounges of the
1960's in a fun and stylish package known as The Velvet Lounge.
We open with
the subtle and seductive rhythms of Fever. The band will
ride this tune in both sultry and up-tempo flavors, while the colorguard opens
with jazzy dance features.

The Velvet Lounge
1. Fever
2. A Night in Tunisia
3. Strangers in the Night
4. The Girl From Ipanema

We then move to the rolling Latin rhythms of
A Night in Tunisia. Opening with the ululating
12/8 rhythms of the front ensemble, solos turn into full
ensemble punches and extended visual features. The piece
ends with the grand percussive impact Powhatan is known for
The 60's stage ballad returns with Strangers in the
Night. With just the hornline and front ensemble, this tune will
fill you with its thick, rich orchestral music while the colorguard fills the
field with a silky smooth performance.
We close with a surprisingly upbeat and unique version of
The Girl From Ipanema. With the pulse running at 176, surely
you'll groove from the first muted rhythms of the front ensemble all the way to
the band ending the show singing in scat style.
We hope you enjoy your visit to The Velvet Lounge.
