Powhatan High School offers college preparatory music theory as a part of the
music curriculum, and is currently taught by the choral director, Chris Thomas.
These classes work through a practical theory curriculum which includes hands-on
writing, the structures of music, the development of music throughout history,
and ear training.
Although many students in the music theory classes are not members of the PHS
band program, all of them are experienced in music to a reasonable degree.
PHS currently offers Music Theory I and Music Theory II.
